More snow fun

Sunday was much the same as Saturday. We went out in the snow, met friends, sledged, built another snowman and came back for hot chocolate.

Snow fun

What to do on a snowy Saturday? Go to the park and make a snowman of course! C was up at 5.30am and excited about the snow. As soon as it was light and we were ready we set out for toddler some toddler fun. We watched sledgers, made a mini snowman, ate an apple (using some for the snowman's nose) and had a big stomp around in new Thomas wellies and stripy snowsuit.

At 32 months (two and a half)

Only 4 months until he's 3, I can't quite believe that the baby days are gone and a cheeky, smart, quick witted little boy has emerged.

You speak in long sentences, up to 10 - 15 words. You play with rhyming sounds, making up names for everyone and giggling when I call you 'Charlie Farley Macanary'.

You can mostly sing the alphabet song and recognise letters. This morning you found a game on my phone which was a bit too old for you and I couldn't quite believe that when I told you which letters to find to spell the word you knew most of them, just muddling up similar shapes like 'y' and 't'.
You've gone off jigsaws a little, but can still do them v quickly. Auntie Pam gave you a set of 4 train ones and you do these well.

Your favourite toy is still the little black wooden train. Apart from nursery he goes most places with you and you don't sleep without him.

After your illness over the Christmas hols you've got bad at going to sleep on your own. Preferring to shout from your room for up to 50 mins. We pampered you at first, going in to pull the covers up or refill your water or read a story but enough is enough, we are now in the midst of enforcing no more visits to your room after bedtime.

We gave you a red and black scooter for Christmas and have had a few scooter playdates with little miss C in the park. You're slight hesitance and careful nature really stand out. C whizzes off, wobbly but fast and you'd rather stay close, be pushed and not go too fast. I hope a few more sessions will help get your confidence up and soon you'll be tearing around on scoot scoot.

You're incredibly loving and even on the busiest mornings you demand a hug on the sofa before getting ready. You're too fidgety to snuggle for long but you love hugging and climbing all over me.
You're rapidly devouring stories and the books I read to you now are much more complicated then only a few months ago. You can listen to and understand much longer tales, as long as there's a picture to see as well you're happy. You also love it when I make up stories for you, usually on the walk to nursery and usually about three diggers (you're a little obsessed with diggers and cranes).

Sleep is becoming much better, as long as you don't have a leaky night-time pull up, then you will sleep through to about 7.30am or even 8am on the weekend, though you tend to know if one of us gets up early on a week day and are usually up by 6am. Today (Sunday) I've snuck into the living room as quiet as possible so I can catch up on this blog without waking you (or Daddy) up.

Today I have promised you that we'll get the trains out again, so I must sort that out. It's also predicted to snow a little, so hopefully we'll get to go outside in it and have some fun.

At the moment I'm...

- Looking forward to our office move to Piccadilly in Feb, no more 5am starts for me.

- Wishing I had time to properly clean the house, floors need vacuuming, washing needs doing, shelves need dusting and beds need changing.

- Wearing my lovely secret Santa scarf.

- Waiting for the 6.25am train, walk to station was perfect, at the exact time the rain had stopped but the air felt fresh and clean and the dawn chorus is in full swing.

- Thinking about the amazing chocolate mousse cake I made from a Nigella recipe at the weekend, there's one cheeky piece left waiting for me tonight.

- Worrying about the cost of a new laptop, ours went kaput on Sunday.

- Planning all the beautiful places we can take Charlie with the National Trust membership we were given for Christmas.

- Drinking decaff coffee, I've given caffeine up for a month.

Photo Year 2012

Memories, Dreams, and Reflections. A look back on my favourite photos from the past year.
I saw this on The Paper Mama last year and wrote this post for 2011, I know there's lots of these memes floating around for 2012, but I really liked the themes on this one, so here's my photo year 2012:

Me! - picture of yourself (you don't have to show your face). What are you most proud of accomplishing in 2012? Here I am, it's my favourite photo of me ever, as a (photoshopped) bride from our wedding day in Feb. Most proud of getting married! It took us 13 years, but we got around to it eventually and I love the fact that my son Charlie could share it with us.

I Love You - picture of your husband, boyfriend, children, pets, etc. Tom, my husband, taken at the same time as my wedding photo above.

Still Laughing... - a moment you're still laughing about now...tell us a story. My cheeky, silly boy, Nana gave him pants for his 2nd birthday and little man thought it hilarious to run around with them on his head (we did too!).

Winter Wonderland - a picture that reflects Winter. It snowed at the end of January, on the night of my hen! I came back from an amazing night out to an beautiful white world. We had a lovely afternoon with C and our friends in the park, building snowmen and sledging.

Birthday - share a birthday picture (your own or someone you love). C's 2nd birthday, I took the day off work to make that cake! I used the same vanilla sponge recipe as the one I'd used for my wedding cake in Feb, and it took all day to make it, but well worth the effort, it was yummy.

Friends - a picture with friends (this could be your friends or your children with their friends).: This year C got a best friend, little Miss C. She started at his nursery and they are inseparable.

I Was Inspired... - could be a picture of your inspiration (person or thing), or inspired by...: I wanted to do something special with our wedding photos and was inspired by some amazing home decor posts from Mandy at A Sorta Fairytale to make a feature wall of our wedding memories.

Spring Fever - a picture that reflects Spring. Our wedding was in the spring and this was the view from the 18th Century barn we got married in, I love the blue sky and  sheep's wool.

Travel or Vacation - a picture taken on vacation or on a recent travel experience...even if it was only a few miles away.: Taken on our honeymoon in Rome.

Summer Days - a picture that reflects summer: Piggyback in the park.

A Day In My Life - a picture of a typical day in your life: Coffee at the station in the morning, usually it's in a flask brought from home, but sometimes I treat myself to a nice latte.

All Smiles - a picture that makes you smile or of smiling faces. My brother and my beautiful sister-in-law got married in July.

Autumn Harvest - a picture that reflects Autumn/Fall. My favourite time of year, C and I collected fallen leaves to use as templates for our own painted versions.

Family or Home - a picture of your family or a picture that represents family/home for you. My whole family, taken at my brother's wedding.

Celebrate! - a picture that reflects a celebration: this one may need some explanation! For my birthday we left C with the grandparents and T and I had an amazing weekend together. We saw Batman at the cinema, visited Hollywood Costumes at the V&A, had a fantastic meal and saw The 39 Steps at the theatre!

Let's Do It Again... - a picture of something you'd like to do again soon. Day out with friends at Chartwell, this is becoming an annual thing, last year we went to Hever Castle.

I Miss You - a picture of someone or something you really miss.: Same as last year, my 'cuztwin' Vicky, though she's now moved from Dundee to Sheffield so much much closer. This was taken during a brilliant weekend she came to stay, the boy loves her.

Beautiful - a picture of someone or something you find beautiful.: My gorgeous wedding bouquet.

Dress Up - this might be a picture from Halloween or not...but someone who is all dressed up! The unhappiest Halloween Dinosaur ever - he hated dressing up this year.

Macro - share your favourite macro or close-up image: Our wedding favours - sugared almonds

Holidays - a picture from the Holiday of your choice.: August on the Isle of Wight

My Favourite - share your favourite picture or memory from 2012. Also taken on the Isle of Wight, I love this picture, it was our last day, really windy and C and I had one last bracing walk along the seashore.

Don't Ever Change - something you love about yourself, someone, or something that you never want to change. The fun my boys have playing together.

Just Because...So There! - share any picture(s) that you really want to share, but doesn't fit in any other category. I did some pottery painting on a friend's hen weekend and I loved the bright colour chart they had on the wall.

Hopes and Dreams - share what you hope to come or dream for 2012. Feel free to share an image of your choice. Moving house, our lease ends in July and this time we're looking to move somewhere bigger rather then renew it.

A Merry 2012 Christmas

Our first Christmas as a married couple we spent with my in-laws. Our little family of three arrived on the 21st and we had 4 lovely festive days playing with their new kittens (Stanley and Wilf) and seeing family.

We left out milk for Santa and an apple for the reindeer. C as ever was given a mountain of presents, including bridges and crossings for his train set and 2 battery powered engines. He also got a toy ferry (it's huge), duplo, Thomas bath set, crayons, games and his main present from us a shiny red scooter.

On Boxing Day morning we travelled from Kent to Wiltshire to spend 4 days with my family.

Again C was truly spoilt with more and more presents as we saw more and more family over the four days. Treasures included a wooden garage, train tunnel and take and play Thomas set. The real downer was that C got ill (see my hospital post) and couldn't enjoy seeing so much family.

He is fully better now, and making up for lost time with all his presents.
